Oxford Postpones URL Change for Oxford Scholarship

If you missed the announcements from OhioLINK or Oxford, the URL Change for Oxford Scholarship Online (OSO) from www.oxfordscholarship.com to oxford.universitypressscholarship.com did not go live on July 14, 2020 and has been postponed again.

More information about this change is available at http://academic-marketing.oup.com/q/1HKpoO6Nq4K1h8FOVuQCS/wv. Once the transition does take place, OhioLINK will provide updated Oxford e-book MARC records.

Join the Conversation at the OPAL-PALNI Conference!

The Ohio Private Academic Libraries (OPAL) and The Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) invite you to our first joint, virtual conference on August 7, 2020 as we explore ways that libraries are “Acting with Agency.” The purpose of the conference is to connect, share research and best practices, and problem solve among academic libraries as we coordinate and prepare for a very different academic year ahead.

With 18 different breakout sessions, 7 blitz presentations, our keynote speaker Jill Morris, the Executive Director of PALCI, and featured speaker Mary Ellen Bates we hope you’ll come away feeling supported, invigorated, and inspired! The conference schedule is available on SCHED and the conference website. Register for the conference.

Introduction to Consortial Deduplication in GOBI and OhioLINK's Cambridge University Press EBA

Like other OhioLINK e-book packages, the new Cambridge University Press EBA package is run through GOBI, in order to allow libraries to avoid unintended duplicate purchases locally.  If you handle your book purchasing through the GOBI system, OhioLINK is hosting a presentation to address how consortial deduplication for OhioLINK’s book packages works in GOBI, with specific examples from the new  package.

Join this presentation on Thursday, July 23 at 1 p.m. The session will be recorded for those unable to make it live.

Holdings Discrepancies for Project Muse Titles in the EJC

OhioLINK is in the process of resolving entitlement issues with Project Muse. As a result, you may find some titles in the EJC or through EBSCO Discovery where the holdings information does not match actual journal coverage. OhioLINK is working to impact the accuracy of the information sent to EBSCO.

OhioLINK Soft Launch of New E-Book Platform

In August 2020 OhioLINK will begin the soft launch of the new OhioLINK EBC e-book platform. It will replace the legacy EBC with a visually attractive, easy to navigate, mobile device compatible, online platform for scholarly e-books. The first collections scheduled to be available will include The American and English Literature Collection (Chadwyck-Healey), Wiley, and Oxford Scholarship Online e-books. Springer e-books will be added next and smaller collections will be added over time.

During the beta phase of the new platform, there will be duplication of content between the two platforms, but RAVE links will route to the new platform. Additional details are in the FAQ Document.

OhioLINK will offer a training/demonstration later in July - watch for the Webex details.

Access to Librarian's Guide to Homelessness Training

The Librarian’s Guide to Homelessness core training purchased by the State Library is now available for all Ohio academic library staff through Niche Academy. The four-part training, authored by Ryan Dowd, is an empathy-driven approach that provides best practices for library staff on how to understand the homeless population and serve them better. Practical tips on how to deal with and de-escalate common situations and issues, and make staff feel empowered and safe are also covered.

To access the training, go to the State Library of Ohio’s Training and Professional Development page and click the homelessness training link. Once in Niche Academy, you will be prompted to create an account. Subsequent webinars in the series will also be archived there.
