Conference Update
It's coming soon! Only 53 more days until the 2020 OPAL-PALNI Conference. If you'd like a sneak peak at the schedule outline and our featured speakers, you can find them on the conference website. Registration and the full schedule will open later this week. Watch the oshare list for the announcement!

OPAL Meetings are Moving to Zoom
We've started hosting OPAL meetings from Zoom meeting rooms. You'll find the links in the OPAL calendar as well as in the specific meeting section for your COI or group, along with any relevant documents. Simply click on the link to join the meeting.

Check Your Oxford Scholarship Online URLs
The change to the URL for Oxford Scholarship Online that was originally scheduled for March will now go into effect on July 14, 2020. The brief checklist and frequently asked questions document provides additional details about the change.

The most important things for OPAL libraries to know is that we have already taken care of any needed changes to the proxy for Oxford Scholarship. However, if you have links on your website, A-Z list or LibGuides you will need to change those as follows after July 14th:
From: www.oxfordscholarship.com

To: oxford.universitypressscholarship.com (do not add the www at the beginning)

Oxford has been working with discovery partners and redirects are in place, so there should be no problems with EBSCO EDS.

Cambridge University Press e-Books
On June 1, OhioLINK opened access for all members to Cambridge University Press Cambridge Core e-books. These are part of a 5-year evidence-based acquisition (EBA) agreement and allow OhioLINK to purchase a subset of the e-books for permanent access. Cambridge Histories, Cambridge Companions, and multi-volume reference works are not included. If you opted to have this collection added to your scope you'll also want to make it accessible through your Full Text Finder in EBSCO Holdings Management.

Future User Services COI Meetings

While the User Services COI is currently without a coordinator, any OPAL members wishing to call a meeting for the group may do so. In order for the group to remain active, the COI must meet at least once per year and communicate and record any meeting activity. If you have any questions, please contact the COI Liaison, Jessica Crossfield McIntosh

Springshare Requires HTTPS for All Sites
Starting on July 15, 2020, Springshare will require that all LibGuide, LibAnswers and LibCal sites load over HTTPS. At that time they will automatically upgrade http:// requests to https:// However, that does not mean all of the content will work simply by changing the URLs. It will depend on the owner of that content/page and whether or not they support HTTPS for that page, widget, etc. You may also have noticed recent Chrome updates block http content from loading.

  • Spot check your content especially widgets or media (Go to Content > Assets and limit to Widgets/Media to see where you are using this content type in your guides.)
  • Check for mixed content
  • If you find something that is loading over HTTP, try updating the source URL to HTTPS and see if that works.

If not, visit the vendor's website to see if you can generate secure, all HTTPS code or contact the provider of the content for HTTPS-compatible code. If that's not possible, you'll need to remove the content.

Congratulations to the following OPAL members selected to participate in Library Leadership Ohio 2020:

  • Bradley Balduff, University of Findlay
  • Laura D'Amato, Ritter Library - Baldwin Wallace University
  • Elizabeth Zeitz, Otterbein University Courtright Memorial Library
