New OER Content from Ohio Faculty

Anna Bendo has created a collection within the OhioLINK Open Course Content Library to make it easier to find OER developed by Ohio faculty. Please share with anyone on your campus who may be interested and can use these. Resources will be continuously added. Please reach out to Anna with any additional resources to include.

Add Your Campus IP Address to the IP Registry

The process of getting IP ranges to content providers can be time-consuming and frustrating, with users often denied access until resolution. The global IP Registry is a single repository of validated IP address, accessible by both publishers and libraries, and maintained for the benefit of scholarly communication.

Libraries register free and receive an admin login to check and update their IP ranges. After validation, the ranges are made live in the Registry for publishers to include in their access management systems. The benefits include fewer places to update your IP details and more accurate usage statistics. Libraries are able to see which publishers are receiving their updates and PSI has developed two block lists designed to help organizations protect themselves from cyber-crime.

Accessibility for LibGuides

Springshare has created a new training video and resource guide to help you add accessible content to LibGuides, customize your guide design for accessibility, and review your site using testing tools. The Alt Text Decision Tree is just one of many helpful tips in the resources section.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has also published the first public working draft of its proposed Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 3.0, which will cover a wider range of user and disability needs, emerging technologies such as web XR and voice input, and new tests for scoring to determine accessibility.

Update Your Subscriptions and Resource Access

This is a good time to review your subscribed resources for the current fiscal year and make sure that you have all the databases you would like available for searching selected in EBSCOhost and the EDS, as well as update your holdings and A-Z database lists. The List of OhioLINK Databases by Access Type (requires ostaff login) is available as a spreadsheet for each fiscal year. The Knowledgebase column identifies corresponding collections to select in EBSCO Holdings Management. Note that some of these include collections that must be selected annually, and over time some collection names have changed. In the OhioLINK FY20-21 accessible resource spreadsheet you will see changes and updates indicated in red. Pay particular attention to Springer eBooks, Wiley e-books and e-journals.

This information is also regularly updated in the EDS Databases and Holdings Management pages of the OPAL website. If you have questions please contact OPAL Help.

ChildrensLit Now Provides Insight Into Current Trends with an Inclusive Focus

Children's Literature Review Source has launched a newsletter to provide book reviews, literary information, interviews and showcase indie authors. According to Director Shelley Oakley, their mission is to review a wide variety of children's and YA titles with several goals in mind: "One, that every child and teen find themselves represented in literature. Two, that they learn about and respect others that are different from themselves. Three, that they are exposed to enjoyable fiction and nonfiction to help educate, provide understanding, and inspire."
